Valincy-Jean Patelli experiments with three dimensional textures to create mixed-media works and sculptures. This nonlinear process allows them to blend stories from their ancestors with historical, theoretical and Yoruba cultural references that stem from the African diaspora. Valincy is interested in examining the disenfranchisement and marginalization of Queer and Black American culture, undergirding the geopolitical landscape. Creating multi-layers of texture by transforming various materials into what they call artifacts and heirlooms that produce new meaning. Using plaster, wood, burlap, canvas and other non-traditional materials their intention is to invoke radical and provocative stories that challenge this intersectional narrative. Patelli has exhibited in group shows and online since 2014 and has held residencies in Germany and Puerto Rico. Their work is held in private collection in the United States, Germany, Norway, Austria and Canada.
