Rachel Ridley is a former art educator and abstract painter based out of Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BFA in Studio Art in 2017. Painting has always been a very spiritual, intensely playful, and deeply healing practice that ties Ridley to her faith in God. Soon after her first son was born, she left the classroom to stay home full time, where she now paints alongside her two little boys in her kitchen studio. Motherhood and watching her children interact and explore the world influences and compliments her painting practice, which is rooted in spontaneity, impulsivity, experimentation, and play.
Ridley uses acrylic paint along with other mixed media to create her work . Her process hinges on a very haphazard, yet strangely meticulous dance between tight compositions and loose and layered mark making. She gradually builds upon scraps of color, shapes, marks, and textures over time until the surface is completely filled.
